  1. Dear Dorothy,
Wow! This and the other recent Yosemite shots are magnificent. This one, “In or Out”, is puzzling. You are the first photographer I’ve watched develop, change is a better word, over a period of time. I love this shot. I’m curious about your “worldview”; what is it in your mind that requires of you that you present the world to the viewer in this way? Your paradigm is expanding! Please keep me in the loop on your show. Always your best fan, Colin

  2. Hi Colin – Thanks! It is always good to hear from you. I must admit that I have a hard time expressing my thoughts when I make an image like “In or Out?”. In fact, I am signing up for a course on developing your Photographer Style which requires thinking about why you are making images and writing about your motivations. With all that said, here goes. The image, “In or Out?”, just seemed to happen like scratching an itch. When I examine all the other Urban Woods images, they also were relatively “easy” and quick to make. When I tried to force the process and just make an image for Urban Woods, I could not get a good/interesting result. However, all the images were the result of stress. I think this last image was related to having my little dog, Boci, very ill and near death. Boci is on the mend but I am still very worried for her. Somehow, these images are the visualization of me working through these feelings. Internally, I am trying to process my stress and worry. In Urban Woods, there is always a duality (urban and wood scenes). You cannot see both at once and have to toggle between the images visually. Hmmm, making the switching between viewpoints is related to my analytical side versus emotional side see-sawing to find an answer. This image has a path toward light where I hope someday to reach acceptance and leave behind worries.
That is my best analysis for now and of course, I reserve the right to re-interpret my motivations at a later date 😉 .
