I read about the keychain mini digital camera sold at Walgreens for $10 on The Online Photographer. So, I just had to get one. Chip and I stopped at Walgreens after I took the Palm Reader image from yesterday’s post. They only had one camera. Today, I filled its 16 MB of memory with 20 shots. This is the only usable one although I do have a lot of accidental self-portraits because I did not realize there is a really long shutter delay. I would press the shutter (or SNAP button based on the manual). I could not hear the beep and would look to see if the image counter on the front had moved down. Therefore getting a shot looking up my nose.

Embarcadero Field Trip #4

This one was taken in the parking garage when finishing our field trip to the Embarcadero Center on Saturday. This is part of my "Mysterious or Surreal Mood" assignment.

I helped the lighting along in Photoshop by quite a bit. I wanted to put more light on the mirror and let the rest flow into mysterious darkness (at least I hope that is how it appears). To achieve this effect, make sure that your image is 8-bit color because the Lighting filter does not yet work wiht 16-bit color. Add a blank layer. Make this layer’s blending mode be Soft Light or Overlay. Fill the layer with neutral grey (RGB 128, 128, 128). Now, run the Filter | Rendering | Lighting filter. From there, you have a lot of light choices, I usually stick with Flashlight or Omni. For this one, I was more adventurous and put in Five Lights Down. Since the lighting is on a grey layer. I could blur the edges and fine-tune the effects without losing image detail.

This is taken from a rooftop plaza where we exited the parking garage. Since I work in this area, I see these reflected dappled light patterns a lot. This is the first time that I have photographed the effect. I did exposure bracketig and combined the images into a high-dynamic range image to control the contrast.

Rather than continuing my color class assignment photos, I am switching to photos from our Embarcadero field trip. Embarcardero street runs along the waterfront and is a pedestrian walkway. We were near the Ferry building which is recently renovated and hosts a world-class farmer’s market. Across the street is a wonderful art fair. It is a great area for a weekend morning or afternoon.

This shot was taken when returning to the parking garage.

This is another assignment image for my color class. This assignment was to show repetition with variation and interesting color. In school, I was always prepared for my assignments and was not a person who like the last minute all night cramming. However for the color class, my assignment was not ready. So as I walked from the train to my car, I was scanning the sidewalk for images. This is part of that series. I have several more images from that walk that I intend to post.

Oh, I did not place the leaf.  Its placement is what attracted me to the image.  I am not good at making these little vignettes.

This one was taken for my color class assignment. We needed to make interesting compositions with color showing repetition. The repetition should have variation. I think my recent drive-by work has affected me because I saw this loading dock door and drove up. Took the image from my car. Hmmm… I need to do a few landscapes again to reset myself.
